You will always want to enlist the services of a Realtor to represent you on new home construction.  Think about it.....the builder's represent themselves.  You need a Realtor to lead you through the home building process.  If you live out of the area I can visit the site on a regular basis and send you pictures of your new home during the construction process.  What a great record to keep for yourself!
